European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery

Client: The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS) is Europe's leading organisation for cataract and refractive surgeons and is at the forefront of developments in anterior segment surgery. The society currently has 4,000 members from over 90 different countries worldwide.

Project:
ESCRS DVD
To produce and manufacture an explanatory DVD of the Society's computer based data system for the collection and analysis of data from surgical procedures all over the world.

Challenge:
To manage the entire project from content creation through to delivery of the final DVDs with packaging for distribution.

Solution:

1. Content Creation:
Trend organised a video crew to film the surgeon designated by The ESCRS to explain the system, on location at his clinic. This footage was then edited to include computer screen shots, motion graphics, opening and closing titles and logos. Suitable music, selected from the Trend’s extensive library was then added to heighten the effectiveness of the presentation and a voice over actor selected to provide off screen introductions and explanations.

2. Media Manufacture and Authoring
The edited film was then prepared for DVD (authored) which included designing an interactive on- screen menu to allow convenient navigation through the content. The final DVD also included a continuous loop option to allow playback without operator assistance, (for use on stands at medical conferences). Finally an option was included to include additional languages tracks at a later date. (Trend has a large pool of native speakers for foreign language voiceovers whom they work with on a regular basis). Once manufactured, the DVD was professionally printed in full color and packed in to custom designed packaging.

Quote from the client:

“Trend’s project management skills proved second to none. By taking this job from initial concept to the delivery of the final content it meant we could free up a lot of our internal resources which would normally be occupied in managing such a complex production"
